"Try Making a Kung-Fu Style Out of This"

Film: The Deadly Mantis (1957)

Alias: None

Type: Ancient

Location: Tundra/Civilized area

Height/Weight: As big as two trucks tacked on top of one another.

Affiliation: Neutral

Summary: Al Gore has a point when he says that global warming is going to do us all in. And if believing him means we don't have to accidentally unleash anything big from the icecaps, we'll do it. After all, big lizards aren't the only things that lie behind ice.

History: After a volcanic eruption near the north pole, the ice begins to part, revealing something very unusual frozen in time. She is a gigantic praying mantis just waiting to be unleashed once again. And unleashed she is, as she begins to terrorize the frozen region and all of its inhabitants. Eventually, she got bored, and decided to take her hunting grounds to new heights, ditching the ice for the US capitol...

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: After getting grounded by a plane ramming into it, the mantis is confronted by humans in the Manhattan Tunnel, where they proceed to smoke, shoot, and bomb her to death.

Powers/Abilities: Immune to bullets.

Weakness: Only things of significant force can hurt her.

Scariness Factor: 3-She has a rather ugly face, but the mantis is hampered by rather stiff flight and movement in general. That said, her looming visage can be intimidating.

Trivia: -The mantis is indeed a rather voracious insect, feasting on just about anything it can it its hands on, even birds!

-There is an entire style of kung-fu dedicated to the mantis. It is a mixed variety of close and long range attacks, and was inspired by the aggressiveness of the insect.

Remind us to fire the guy who thought of relocating Washingtom DC to the Arctic.

And with that, her wings are burned off.

She managed to learn one thing again. Fire hot. Ow.

"Do a barrel-roll to HELL!"
Just wait until that building gives in from the weight.

That previous caption above and this both prove my point.

The newest feasting grounds are starting off a bit slow.
Seems they knew this day would come.

The fly among the clouds once again is enough to send this creature to some form of happy sorrow.

With this climb, she realizes one thing. This world didn't change with her in mind.

After so long, she finally gets to see the sun once more.

Her final hunt is...decidingly cramped.
